SCoolAir – Empowering schools for air quality action

SCoolAir is a citizen science project funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme through the IMPETUS accelerator. It directly involves students and teachers in air quality monitoring and in understanding the connections between indoor and outdoor microclimates, well-being, and pollution.

Students actively participate as young researchers, learning to:

  • Build environmental sensors
  • Collect and interpret data on air quality, temperature, and comfort
  • Analyze the impact of environmental conditions on well-being in schools

Through a co-designed curriculum developed with researchers and teachers, SCoolAir integrates technology, science, and environmental awareness. It provides practical tools to observe and understand the school environment, promoting a participatory and replicable model.

SCoolAir makes the invisible visible, turning schools into living labs for sustainability and scientific citizenship.

The research team is looking for middle and high school classes to take part in activities running from September to December 2025, totaling approximately 10 hours in the classroom.
