Urban heat island

Air temperature prediction in Turin for July 10th 2022 (10 pm).

The effects of climate change and heat waves are amplified in urban environments. Therefore, it is necessary to estimate the urbanization impact on the evolution and distribution of air temperatures.

DIATI air quality research group has developed a model, based on machine learning, capable of generating heat maps of Turin’s air temperature. To do so, the research group has employed satellite data, urban morphological parameters and temperature measurements collected by citizens to train automatic learning models.

The model is capable of producing accurate heat maps by using a Random Forest model.

The activity is supported by ARPA Piemonte through a scholarship funding.
