Our activities
Our work is based on calculating and monitoring the presence of meso- and microplastics, collecting and removing macroplastics from the river by collecting samples, carrying out instant measurements with IoT and direct observation. We work both in situ and in the lab.
What keeps us united is the will to “get involved” in different issues, to learn to work in a group setting and to face new challenges.
We have purchased a boat we want to equip to carry out monitoring activities. We hope that by seeing the boat sailing through the river, the citizens will start asking questions regarding water resources and will start giving them the value and importance they deserve, so often taken for granted.
That is why our added value relies on our social communication, that is, our effort to raise awareness in society on topics related to plastic pollution.
In collaboration with Cus Torino, we carry out on-site sampling followed by analyses realized in DIATI’s lab at Politecnico di Torino. These analyses allow the categorization of the polymeric waste collected and provide an assessment of the evolution in time and space of both the waste itself and the general ecological status of the river.
To further develop our project, we involve expertise from different engineering disciplines, and from other disciplines as well:
- Environmental and land engineering: regarding lab analyses and sampling;
- Electronic/mechatronic engineering: regarding the development of intelligent systems and data collection of measurements over time in specific databases;
- Mechanical engineering: giving instructions on how to build collection systems on the river;
- Design and Communication: building the online presence of the team.
