Flat-bottomed motorboat

The DIATI Geophysics laboratory is equipped with a flat-bottomed motorboat, which is built entirely from non-magnetic or magnetizable materials. The internal space has been specially designed to place the geophysical instrumentation and perform acquisition in the aquatic environment in an optimal way, minimizing the disturbances caused by the structure of the boat. In particular, the boat can be used to perform GPR, acoustic, magnetic, and geoelectric measurements with a cable dragged by the boat. These measurements are mainly carried out on inland waters (rivers and lakes) for the geological and hydrogeological characterization of bottom sediments, the analysis of the surface waters and groundwater interconnection, and the evaluation of solid transport in watercourses.

The boat can be equipped with an internal combustion engine or, in particular delicate conditions, with an electric motor.
