WORLD WATER DAY 2022

How much water does it take to produce the coffee beans required for a single cup? What about the water needed for a pasta portion or a simple apple?

For the 2022 edition of World Water Day, the University Green Team is organizing an interactive event created in collaboration with the DIATI Water to Food research group. The event targets the entire PoliTo community and aims at developing knowledge about the water hidden inside the food we eat.

During the week of March 22, 2022, anyone in the cafeterias and canteens at our Polytechnic will be able to easily determine the water footprint of its meal thanks to the studies carried out by the Water To Food team. The calculation will be based on the water footprint values of each ingredient composing the meal. The research team has processed these values based on the typical offer of the PoliTo’s cafeterias and canteens. The item-specific water fotprint values refer to the average footprint of Italian consumption, available online at the website.

To determine the individual water footprint, it will be sufficient to look at the placemat we created explicitly for the trays in the Politecnico canteens and the water-price list at the bars. The water-price lists of bars and canteens will be available online on Tuesday, March 22, 2022.

The initiative is sponsored by RUS - Network of Universities for Sustainable Development.
