Alberto Viglione was elected President of the Hydrological Sciences Division of EGU

Alberto Viglione, associated professor at DIATI, was elected President of the Hydrological Sciences Division of the European Geosciences Union (EGU), the non-profit international union of scientists with about 18,000 members from all over the world, leader in Europe in research on Earth sciences, planetology and space sciences: https://www.egu.eu/elections/egu-election-autumn-2021/.

The Hydrological Sciences (HS) division is the largest one within EGU and it is concerned with all aspects of the terrestrial hydrological cycle (including precipitation, surface water, soil water, groundwater) from the pore scale to the global scale, and its relationships and interactions with the atmospheric part of the hydrological cycle. The main tasks of the Division are: a) Organizing the hydrological part of the program during the annual EGU General Assembly; b) Running its on-line open access journal: Hydrology and Earth System Sciences (HESS); c) Recognizing deserving colleagues in various stages of their careers with its Award program; d) Encouraging the interaction and active participation of young hydrologists within the hydrological community and e) Circulating news, information, job adverts, announcements of opportunity or meetings that may be relevant to the hydrological community in Europe and worldwide.

Alberto Viglione will officially take office during the plenary meeting of EGU on Aprile 4th 2022 in Wien, Austria and he will serve as vice-President for one year and as President for the mandate 2023-2025
