From weather forecasts to forecasts of risks for human life
Interview to Dr. Gianpaolo Balsamo (ECMWF and lecturer at the Master on Climate Change)
At the beginning of February 2021, right after the launch of the second edition of the second level Specializing master’s programme in "Climate Change: adaptation and mitigation solutions", the Departmenr of Environment, Land and Infrastructure Engineering interviewd Dr. Gianpaolo Balsamo, Principal Scientist and Team Leader at the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) and lecturer at the Master offered by Politecnico di Torino. G. Balsamo presented his team’s research activities and his experience at the Master, focussing on the main scientific challenges that ECMWF will face in the next years, and on the link between weather forecasts and climate change monitoring.
