'Environmental risks and opportunities for nano-enabled strategies in agriculture'

1.30 - 2.30 pm - Politecnico di Torino - DIATI 3, Meeting room, 1st floor

Professor Melanie Kah of the University of Auckland during her visit at DIATI will hold a seminar on the risks and opportunities of using nanomaterials in agriculture to reduce the impact of plant protection on the environment.
The seminar is organized as part of the Nanograss project co-financed by the Compagnia di San Paolo.

ABSTRACT: Among a wide range of possible applications of nanotechnology in agriculture, there has been a particular interest in developing novel nanoagrochemicals. While some concerns have been expressed regarding altered risk profile of the new products, many foresee a great potential to support the necessary increase in global food production in a sustainable way. This presentation will illustrate how a critical evaluation of nanoagrochemicals against conventional analogues is essential to assess the new benefits and risks associated with the introduction of novel technologies in agriculture.
